Truck bombs used in Pakistan attack

9:18 am on 30 January 2011

At least seven people have been killed and 19 injured in twin truck bombings targeting a road tunnel in north-western Pakistan, close to the Afghan border.

The first truck was detonated inside the Kohat tunnel on Friday night, destroying a vehicle behind.

Shortly afterwards, an oil tanker was rammed into a security checkpoint at the tunnel's other entrance.

The tunnel connects the main city of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to the city of Kohat.

The checkpoint was reportedly not manned at the time. The BBC reports that most victims of the attacks were said to be civilians.

Security forces later sealed the tunnel, closing it to traffic.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the bombings.
