Federal agents in the United States have charged 127 people with links to Mafia groups.
The arrests were made on Thursday morning throughout New York City, New Jersey, Rhode Island and other areas in the north-east US.
Attorney-General Eric Holder said the suspects face charges including arson, racketeering, extortion, murder and drug dealing.
Mr Holder said the charges spawned from decades of offences.
The BBC reports prominent members of New York's five Mafia families are among those targeted.
The sweep began before dawn on Thursday. Some 800 federal agents and police officers were involved. One person was also arrested in Italy.
