Storm moving towards north-east US

A winter storm is now moving toward the north-east of the United States, leaving icy roads, power cuts and school cancellations in its wake in the south east.

As much as 30cm of snow has fallen in states from Louisiana to North Carolina since on Sunday.

Heavy snow is now expected to begin falling in New York City later on Tuesday.

The BBC reports it will be the third storm in less than three weeks in the north east.

A winter storm warning was issued for Tuesday evening and Wednesday in the region, with the heaviest snow expected overnight.

Emergencies were declared in the states of Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee on Monday.
