The US unemployment rate has reached a seven-month high, raising fears about the strength of the country's economic recovery.

US Labour Department statistics show the nation's unemployment rate rose to 9.8% in November, with just 39,000 jobs created during the month, compared to 172,000 in October.

Analysts are concerned that the high levels of unemployment in the US are undermining the economy's recovery., the BBC reports.

Some 15.1 million people were now unemployed in the US.

Jobs were created in business services, healthcare and mining sectors, but job numbers in the retail and manufacturing sectors fell.
