No more World Cup bids unless rules changed - England

10:51 am on 4 December 2010

The leader of the unsuccessful English bid to host the FIFA World Cup says countries like England, the United States and Australia should not bother bidding again unless FIFA changes its rules.

2018 bid chief executive Andy Anson says committee members gave personal assurances of support, only to back other contenders in the first round.

He says all three countries had very good bids, but got only six votes between them.

Mr Anson says something is not quite right.

Russia and Qatar were successful in their bids for the 2018 and 2022 events.

Mr Anson says the voting process should be transparent in future.
