Countries warn of terror threats in Philippines

9:10 pm on 3 November 2010

The United States, Britain and Australia have warned of a heightened risk of terrorist attacks in the Philippines, advising their citizens to exercise a high degree of caution.

Australia says there are reliable reports that attacks, including bombings, are possible any time anywhere in the country, including in the capital Manila

Defence Secretary Voltaire Gazmin says the Philippine government does not see an immediate threat but the advisories are being taken seriously, Reuters reports.

The three travel advisories say possible targets could include places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers, such as airports and shopping malls.
