Nine Australian athletes have tested positive to a banned substance according to the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority.

The agency refuses to name the athletes who now face bans of up to two years after testing positive for methylhexaneamine, otherwise known as DMAA.

AFL and NRL players could be amongst the athletes that tested positive, according to the ABC.

ASADA issued an alert on Friday night, warning athletes about taking supplements containing the stimulant.

The head of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association says no athletes who competed in the recent Games in India are among them.
