More snow, rain expected in UK

More snow and heavy rain is expected in parts of Britain.

Forecasters say it is due to arrive in southern England and Wales on Monday afternoon, spread to the Midlands and continue overnight into Tuesday.

The BBC reports there could be up to 20cm of snow in some areas, and 30-40mm of rain in others.

Snow has already started to fall in Northern Ireland, south west Scotland, and parts of the Midlands and the north west of England.

Some councils are already running out of salt and grit to spread on the roads. The Highways Agency says supplies were "very limited".

A container ship is bringing 40,000 tonnes of salt from Spain and another shipment is coming from Germany. Both are due to arrive on Wednesday.
