Guards killed in Taliban attack on road-builders

The Taliban has attacked a construction company building a road from Lashkar Gah to Sangin in southern Afghanistan.

According to reports, as many as 30 people were killed during the attack in Helmand province on Thursday.

The exact number and identities of the casualties are not yet clear. But bodies have reportedly begun arriving at a hospital in the provincial capital of Lashkar Gar.

The head of the security company guarding the construction team told the BBC that 22 guards were killed and 16 were wounded in the attack, which he said lasted 15 hours.
