Senator Edward Kennedy collapsed at an inaugural luncheon for United States President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

Wheeled out on a stretcher, the brother of President John F Kennedy was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was described as awake and answering questions.

The 76-year-old senator was diagnosed in May last year with a brain tumor.

Mr Obama said his prayers were with Senator Kennedy and his family.
