Britain is to boost spending on aid projects in Afghanistan by 40% while at the same time reviewing the amount it gives to other countries.

The government has already committed 500 million pounds on projects in Afghanistan over the next five years.

The BBC reports the review is an indicator of the new coalition government's foreign policy objectives.

Britain currently gives aid to about 90 countries, from a 7.3 billion pound fund.
