Asian countries have been told to invest much more money in agriculture to avert a food crisis.
At a conference in the Philippines, the head of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, Jacques Diouf, said Asia has given the farm sector a low priority.
He said spending must immediately rise by 50% to contain hunger and future rises in food prices.
