Queen addresses UN General Assembly

3:28 pm on 7 July 2010

The Queen has addressed the United Nations General Assembly for the first time since 1957.

She praised the achievements of the United Nations, but noted that much more remains to be done to combat global issues like terrorism and global warming.

The Queen challenged the UN to lead the international efforts and be a real force for common good, adding that the waging of peace is the hardest form of leadership.

After leaving the UN, the Queen visited the World Trade Center site and opened a memorial garden for the British who died in the terrorist attacks there in 2001.
