Army says Bangkok almost clear

8:17 pm on 21 May 2010

Thailand's army says an operation to secure central Bangkok will be completed soon, as it works to crush pockets of resistance after the crushing of anti-government rallies.

It says the security clearance on the ground is complete around the strategic intersection occupied by protesters for six weeks.

But the army says it has been working to clear 10 high-rise buildings including hotels, apartments and a hospital.

The military and police will continue to operate security checkpoints in Bangkok.
