South Africa's government is dismissing the threat of an alleged al Qaeda terrorist plot against next month's Football World Cup.
A man said to be an al Qaeda militant in Iraq has been arrested and has reportedly confessed to planning to attack certain teams at the tournament. The Saudi national has been in custody for two weeks.
The South African government is still seeking information from the Iraqi government about the arrest.
The ABC reports that the man told journalists he had planned to target the Danish and Dutch football teams to avenge insults made against the Prophet Mohamed.
He also said that al Qaeda leaders had not yet approved the plan.
