6.3-magnitude quake hits off Indonesia coast

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake has struck off the coast of Sumatra in Indonesia.

The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 11.29pm on Wednesday local time and was centred about 137 km southwest of Bengkulu in Sumatra. It was at a depth of 18 km.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a destructive, widespread tsunami although there was a small possibility of a local tsunami near the area of the quake.
