More deaths are feared as floodwaters recede in Nashville, Tennessee, after weekend storms. At least 29 people were killed: 19 in Tennessee, six in Mississippi and four in Kentucky.

A legendary country music venue and a symphony hall are among the sites to have been damaged.

The BBC reports parts of central Nashville and elsewhere were swamped after the Cumberland river breached its banks on Monday. The floods began to withdraw on Tuesday.

Among the buildings that were flooded was the Grand Ole Opry, a music hall considered by many to be the centre of American country music history.

The Nashville Symphony Orchestra has halted performances indefinitely due to extensive flooding damage to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in central Nashville.
