Poker jackpot taken in Berlin hold-up

Armed robbers stormed a hotel on Saturday in central Berlin where a poker tournament was taking place.

Police said they were armed with assault rifles and hand grenades.

Berlin's Tageszeitung newspaper reported on its website that they

made off with the tournament jackpot of 800,000 euros ($US1.1 million).

The BBC reports about 1000 players were taking part in the five-day tournament which resumed after the robbery. The event was organised by the European Poker Tour.
