The New South Wales state government is offering a reward of $A100,000 ($NZ125,000) for information on the disappearance of a New Zealand woman.
Marion Sandford, 23, was last seen by her brother Peter on 24 January, 1980, at their home in Cammeray, on Sydney's North Shore.
Three days later, Mr Sandford received a letter purporting to be from his sister, advising she was all right and that would be away until later that week.
Police believe she was murdered.
NSW police say they are investigating the possibility Ms Sandford had links to a drug syndicate.
They say they have been working closely with the New Zealand consulate and New Zealand police.
Mr Sanford now lives in Wellington. In a statement issued by the NSW government, he said the police believe new information would assist them in identifying the criminals.
He says someone must know what happened to his sister and the family is grateful for what the New South Wales government is doing.
However, Mr Sanford said he was unaware his sister had any involvement in criminal activity.
