Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka have dropped bombs on a power plant in the capital, Colombo.

A fire resulted at the Kelanitissa power station according to the Colombo fire brigade.

The Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday the blasts caused minor damages.

Earlier, rebels dropped two bombs on a military camp in northwestern Mannar district, about 300km north of the capital.

They were the first rebel air strikes for six weeks.

The rebels are believed to operate five Czech-built Zlin-143 aircraft. Satellite images shown they have more than one air strip inside areas under their control.
