Palin and Fey share stage on Saturday Night Live

Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has put in a widely anticipated appearance on the American comedy skit show "Saturday Night Live," sharing the stage with Tina Fey, whose impression of Governor Palin has become famous.

The TV show opened with a mock press conference in which Mrs Palin's spokesman requested that the press "don't write anything down."

Sarah Palin was a surprise pick by Republican presidential candidate John McCain in August as his running mate, and has been a big hit with conservative Christians.

But satirical shows and chat shows have had a field day lampooning her, with Tina Fey leading the pack.
