Victims of Bali bombing remembered

6:15 am on 13 October 2008

The 2002 Bali bombings have been remembered amid a promise from the Indonesian Government that the convicted bombers would be executed by the end of the year.

Hundreds of people gathered in Bali and Sydney on Sunday to remember the 202 people killed on 12 October, 2002.

They included 88 Australians and three New Zealanders.

Three men are awaiting execution, but the ABC reports prosecutors are said to have delayed plans to execute them before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, in September.

Indonesian prosecutors earlier put plans on hold to execute them before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on September, citing bureaucratic delays.

The ABC reports the bombers promised last week there would be "retribution" if they were executed. They have shown no regret for the attacks.

Another attack was carried out in Bali on 1 October, 2005, in which 23 people were killed, including 3 suicide bombers.
