A top New Zealand diplomat has been reprimanded for telling the United States Democratic Party in a tweet to 'get your shit together or we will all die'.
Newsroom has reported Caroline Beresford, the deputy head of mission to the United States, made a series of comments raising concerns about the Democrats' ability to win the next election.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it did not endorse the content or tone of the now deleted tweets and it expects its staff to remain politically neutral.
It was taking "appropriate action", but would not go into any details as to what that included.
