A 6.9 magnitude earthquake has just hit off the Solomon Islands.

Preliminary data said the quake was centred near the Santa Cruz Islands, about 460 kilometres east of Honiara, and was 33 kilometres deep. It hit at about 9.45am (NZST).
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said, based on all available data, it was not issuing a warning at this stage.
