A committee of MPs will ask the United States government to hand over any information relating to possible British involvement in the mistreatment of terror suspects in the years after the 2001 attacks in New York and Washington.

It follows reports that the British government requested the removal of some information from a US report into the mistreatment.
The head of the intelligence committee, Sir Malcolm Rifkind, has promised to act without fear or favour after calls for an investigation into possible British complicity in torture.
It follows a US Senate report on torture, which was partially redacted at the request of the British government, the ABC reports.
However, the UK opposition says an inquiry led by a judge is needed.
That is supported by human rights charity Reprieve, which says the intelligence committee is the very organisation that has missed examples of British involvement in torture in the past.
