A New Zealander living in Thailand has been sentenced to almost five years in prison after admitting selling drugs to teenagers.

The Phuket Gazette said Garry Halpin was a police volunteer helping tourists.

He pleaded guilty to selling crystal methamphetamine to tourists and teenagers.

Because he pleaded guilty, his sentence was halved to four years and 10 months.

Halpin also tested positive in drug tests.
