Reggae star found guilty of murder

One of Jamaica's most popular and controversial reggae stars, Vybz Kartel, has been convicted of murder in a trial closely followed.

An 11-member jury found the musician, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, guilty of murdering Clive 'Lizard' Williams three years ago.

Ahead of the verdict, heavily armed police in the capital Kingston cordoned off streets to prevent disruption by his fans, the BBC reports.

Palmer was the biggest name in dancehall reggae in recent years. His bleached skin covered by tattoos made him stand out from the crowd and so did his skill as a DJ.

But the 'world boss' as he called himself also lived the gangster life. He was arrested in 2011 and it was alleged he had been involved in two killings.

One case was thrown out, but on Thursday he was convicted along with three other men of killing Mr Williams over a missing gun.
