Authorities in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh are to drop charges of sedition against students from Indian-administered Kashmir for supporting arch-rival Pakistan during a cricket match.

However, officials say they will continue to investigate allegations of disrupting communal harmony.

More than 60 students at a university were suspended last weekend after an Asia Cup match in which Pakistan defeated India, the BBC reports.

The students said they only clapped when Pakistan won.
