At least six peacekeepers from Chad have been killed in clashes in the Central African Republic.

The African Union said they were attacked by a Christian militia in the capital Bangui on Wednesday.

The BBC reports the circumstances remain unclear.

At least a dozen civilians have been killed since Wednesday.

The AU has sent nearly 4000 troops in CAR since President Francois Bozize was overthrown in March in a Christian-Muslim conflict. France, the former colonial power, also has 1600 soldiers there to help restore order.
