The International News Safety Institute says 126 journalists and other media personnel around the world have died on the job this year.

The insitute said that's 21 fewer than last year, but the incidence of kidnappings and disappearances is rising.

For the second consecutive year, it said Syria is the most dangerous place to work. Nineteen of the dead had lost their lives in Syria.

In addition, at least 18 foreign and 20 Syrian journalists are believed to be missing after being detained or kidnapped there.
