A British judge has ruled a Muslim woman must remove her full-face veil when giving evidence at a trial for allegedly intimidating a witness.
The 22-year-old woman argued she should be able to wear the veil, or niqab, while standing trial because it was a human right and in line with Britian's culture of tolerance.
However, Judge Peter Murphy at Blackfriar's Crown Court disagreed, the BBC reports.
He ruled that it is of cardinal importance for the jury to be able to observe a witness while they are giving evidence and that covering the face would hinder that openness.
There is currently no legislation in Britain covering the wearing of the niqab.
