lsraeli-Palestinian talks session held

Direct lsraeli-Palestinian talks began in Jerusalem on Wednesday. Both sides said they lasted several hours.

Few details have been released about the location, timing or agenda of the talks. The BBC reports both sides are cautious about achieving any breakthrough.

The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday reported expectations about the talks were "extremely low".

The BBC reports Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem halted the last direct talks in September 2010.

Israel on Sunday confirmed plans for more than 2000 new settlement homes.

Twenty six Palestinian prisoners were released late on Tuesday, Another 78 prisoners will be released in four tranches over the next nine months.

The Palestinians are represented by Saeb Erekat and Fatah official Muhammed Shtayyeh.

Israeli Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni and prime ministerial aide Isaac Molcho are representing the Israeli side.
