Thai sailors are cleaning up an oil spill which damaged a popular beach on an island in the Gulf of Thailand on Sunday night.
The ABC reports Ao Phrao beach on Koh Samet is popular with international tourists and weekend visitors from Bangkok. Most of the island is a national park.
"It covers about 300 metres of the beach," said Khao Laem Ya National Park chief Soomet Saitong.
The PTT Global Chemical, a Thai company, has admitted that about 50,000 litres of crude oil leaked into the sea from a pipeline when a tanker was being unloaded on the weekend.
The company said the spill will be cleaned up by Thursday.
The ABC reports another PTT subsidiary was involved in a huge oil spill in the Timor Sea off north-western Australia in 2009.
