A powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake has hit off the coast of Antarctica, generating large waves but causing no injuries.
Seismic experts at Argentina's Orcadas base in Antarctica say the quake struck near the base about 11am on Monday and was 10 kilometres deep at its epicentre, AFP reports
In a statement, Argentina's Antarctic management said the quake did not cause any damage to the base or injuries to the staff.
It said there had been no reports at that stage of damage or injuries at other bases on the Antarctic peninsula.
