Fears are held for seven fishermen after a boat capsized in Torres Strait. They were part of a group of 10 from Papua New Guinea.

The ABC reports a search was to continue in far north Queensland on Saturday for the men.

Thursday Island water police said 10 men left Daru Island near Papua New Guinea on Sunday to go fishing near Yorke Island.

Three were picked up by a passing fishing boat on Monday. They told police the boat capsized in rough seas.

Police said a fishing boat washed up on Wednesday near the village of Mabuduan on the PNG mainland.
