A plane has crashed at an airport in Alaska, and officials say all 10 people aboard were killed.
The accident happened as the plane was taking off on Sunday morning local time from Soldotna south of Anchorage, the BBC reports. Local officials say the de Havilland DHC3 Otter was engulfed in flames before firefighters could reach it.
"We saw the plume immediately when we left the station," fire captain Lesley Quelland told the Anchorage Daily News. "The aircraft was crashed off the side of the runway and it was fully involved in flames."
All the victims, one pilot and nine passengers, died inside the plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the aircraft was being operated by Rediske Air; a company
employee has confirmed to the Peninsula Clarion that it had been flown by pilot and company owner Willy Rediske.
The National Transportation Safety Board has sent investigators to the crash, one of several in Alaska this year. Travelling across the state by plane is common because of the limited road system and hazardous weather.
