Suspected Islamist gunmen have killed 29 students and a teacher at a school in northeast Nigeria.
Survivors said the attackers set fire to buildings at a boarding school in Mamudo, Yobe state, and shot pupils as they tried to flee. Witnesses said some of the victims were burned alive in the pre-dawn attack.
Dozens of schools have been burned in attacks by Islamists since 2010, the BBC reports.
Yobe is one of three states where President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in May, sending thousands of troops to the area.
It was the deadliest of three attacks on schools since the military launched an offensive in May to try to crush Boko Haram, an Islamist insurgent group.
