Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi of Syria is reported to have survived a car bomb attack as he was being driven in a convoy through the capital, Damascus.
State television later broadcast a brief interview with Mr Halqi, saying that it was filmed after the attack.
State TV said the explosion on Monday happened at an intersection near a public garden and a school. Images from the scene showed the charred remains of several vehicles, and a badly damaged bus.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in London said one of Mr Halqi's bodyguards was among several others killed.
The BBC reports it is unclear whether the blast was a suicide bombing or a planted device.
