Mass burials are being held in the south of the Philippines from Cyclone Bopha.
Earlier, a government agency had advised officials not to bury the bodies until they were subjected to DNA testing for identification.
But the potential threat public health of the decomposing bodies is cited the reason for going ahead with the first mass burial of 200 unidentified people.
Bopha hit the southern island of Mindanao on 4 December. Civil Defence said on Saturday 1067 bodies have been counted so far and more than 800 people are still missing.
The total toll is expected to be about 1500.
Typhoon Washi left 1268 dead in the southern Philippines in December last year. The Philippines is hit by about 20 major storms or typhoons each year.
