Pope statue 'goes from Mussolini to refrigerator likeness'

A modified statue of the late Pope John Paul II has been unveiled in Rome after the original version was criticised as resembling the Fascist leader Benito Mussolini.

The sculptor said he had corrected errors which had crept in during the creation last year of the 5m bronze statue.

The new version has more defined features and appears to be smiling.

But one passer-by has already complained that it makes the late pope look like a refrigerator.
