Police in Norway are investigating the theft of some of the Ashanti crown jewels of Ghana from a hotel in Oslo.

The jewels were travelling with King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is representing Ghana at a business conference in Norway.

Inspector Marius Erlandssen said a suitcase belong to the king was stolen in the lobby of the Radisson Blue Plaza at around 1pm on Wednesday.

Ghana's embassy in Copenhagen said that Norwegian press reports that the suitcase contained jewellery were correct, but declined to comment further.
