Death by fire in Tibet

5:56 am on 7 October 2012

A writer in Tibet is reported to have died after setting himself on fire in protest against Chinese rule.

The International Campaign for Tibet in London said the man, named as Gudrub, called for religious freedom and the return of the Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, as the flames engulfed him.

The group said there have been at least 50 self-immolations by Tibetans since 2009 because of China's rule.
