Three Indonesian men who crewed on an asylum seeker boat wrecked at Christmas Island have each been sentenced to more than five years in jail.

Abdul Rasjid, 61, Supriyadi, 33, and Hardi Hans, 22, were last month found guilty of people smuggling.

They were crew members on the boat known as Siev 221 that ran onto rocks at Christmas Island in December 2010, killing 50 people.

The three were offered the equivalent of $A2000 by people smugglers to work on the boat.

Prosecutor Ron Davies QC told the court the crew knew the state the boat was in.

"From the very beginning, they were all very aware of the circumstances of the vessel, the lack of safety equipment and the crowded nature of the boat," the ABC reported.

.

Judge Stephen Scott said the trio knew, or turned a blind eye to, the fact there were only 20 life jackets available even though there were 92 people on board.
