The Queen hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace for officials from the International Olympics Committee on Monday, four days before she officially opens the Games.
IOC president Jacques Rogge presented her with a collection of gold, silver and bronze medals.
The Queen told the gathering that preparing for the Games has been an inspiring experience for the whole country.
