The Rolling Stones are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their debut in a London nightclub.

It started at the Marquee Club in 1962 when the original members of the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Bryan Jones filled in for the regular band who had been booked to perform on the BBC.

Half a century later, the Stones have sold over 200 million albums around the world, the ABC reports.

To mark their golden jubilee, a photography exhibition tracing the band's long career will be launched in London on Thursday.

Guitarist Richards has confirmed that the Stones have been rehearsing recently, and says they will return to the stage soon.
