Signing of agreement with Japan postponed

6:10 am on 30 June 2012

The South Korean government has abruptly postponed signing a military intelligence agreement with Japan in response to anti-Japanese sentiment.

It made the announcement less than an hour before the two countries were to sign their first military agreement since the end of Japanese imperial rule in 1945.

There is anger in South Korea about plans to share intelligence information on North Korea and China with the former colonial power.
