Satellites to detect illegal vodka plants

8:32 am on 14 June 2012

The Russian government is to use satellites to detect illegal alcohol production.

Russia produces more than 8.6 million litres of vodka per year.

But the BBC reports counterfeit alcohol is thought to account for more than one third of the market.

Photographs will be taken of crops and factories where there is suspicious activity, which will then be checked.
