Two Aussie swimmers sent home

Two Australian swimmers will be sent home as soon as their London Olympic events conclude for posting photos of themselves posing with firearms.

The Australian Olympic Committee says their conduct showed a lack of judgement and had brought themselves into disrepute, the ABC reports.

Australian Chef de Mission Nick Green called into question the swimmers' "lack of judgement" in a letter sent to the pair.

"As a member of the 2012 Australian Olympic Team, and as I have reminded you on previous occasions, it is an honour and a privilege to be a member of an Australian Olympic Team," Mr Green said.

D'Arcy and Monk have also been banned from using social media throughout the duration of the Games, including Facebook and Twitter.

In a statement, the AOC Selection Committee expressed its disappointment with the behaviour of D'Arcy and Monk labelling the pair "repeat offenders who had shown poor judgement in their decision-making."
