Former newspaper editor arrested

Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson has been arrested under suspicion of perjury in the latest development in the phone hacking scandal in Britain.

Mr Coulson is being questioned by Scottish police over his appearance before the High Court in Glasgow in 2010, when a politician sued the newspaper over a story published when he was the editor.

Mr Coulson told the court that he had no knowledge of illegal activities by his reporters.

News of the World was closed by News Corp in July last year.

Mr Coulson was editor between 2003 and 2007, a period when the Sunday paper was linked to a phone hacking scandal involving up to 4000 people.

The scandal also created further problems for British Prime Minister David Cameron, who had hired Mr Coulson as his spokesman after he left the paper.

The BBC reports the latest arrest complicates what is already a very tangled tale indeed.
