The Queensland government has announced funding for an upgrade of the second-biggest saleyard in Australia.

The ABC reports it will contribute $A5 million towards a $A12 million upgrade of the Dalby saleyards.

Attorney-General Paul Lucas says the money will take a financial burden off Western Downs Regional Council.

"This is the second biggest saleyard in Australia - 200,000 head of cattle go through a year," he said.
